Renewable energy projects to be implemented by 2030
The Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy, in cooperation with the Public-Private Partnership Projects Authority, is working on launching the second and third phases of the Shagaya Renewable Energy Complex project, in accordance with Law No. 39 of 2010 on the establishment of Kuwaiti joint stock companies responsible for the construction and implementation of power plants and water desalination plants in the State of Kuwait, and Law No. 116 of 2014 on the Public-Private Partnership Projects Authority, which is considered one of the largest renewable energy projects in the Middle East with a production capacity of approximately 4900 MW and an area of 79.85 km2. The project has been divided as follows:
- Zone 1: 1100 MWAC photovoltaic (PV) energy with an area of 18.1 km2.
- Zone 2: 600 MWAC photovoltaic (PV) energy with an area of 8.5 km2.
- Zone 3: 1500 MWAC photovoltaic (PV) energy covering an area of 21.5 km2.
- Zone 4: 1700 MWAC photovoltaic (PV) capacity covering an area of 29km2.
